1960 Allis Chalmers D-17
Allis Chalmers D17 models came in four series 1,2,3,4, produced from 1957-1967.
This particular tractor is a D17 series 1, witch series ones were produced from 1957-1960. It provided 52 h.p. Some new changes came to Allis with this tractor, a few examples- They repositioned the seating so the operator was positioned in front of the rear wheels, all models prior to this were behind the rear wheels. Reasoning for this is, the operator was being "catapulted" from the seat and was in for a very rough ride during field work. It also added a power director hand clutch, power adjustable rear wheels, and a traction booster system. Mid 1960 Allis Chalmers had changed there colors. Until mid 1960 Allis used the color "Persian Orange #1" this color was more of a burnt orange (darker). The change was made to "Persian Orange #2" witch is the most common Allis color you see today (brighter). This Particular tractor is Persian Orange #2, witch is correct to the later 1960 serial numbers.
The D17 was Allis Chalmers most popular tractor produced, with it short stance, wide profile and big 52 h.p. it was a very desirable tractor among some farmers in its day.
